Thalaivar birthday celebration by fans – a trendsetter
Superstar Rajinikanth’s movie release is more than a festival for his fans who follow Rajinism as their religion. Not only his fans but many general audiences love to watch his movie on big screens for the entertainment package which Rajini never misses to deliver. The fans follow a tradition of bursting crackers, breaking coconuts, showing aarthi to their star’s banners, fixing gigantic cutouts, and pouring milk on it as a ritual by default. The sense of ecstasy they feel cannot be understood by all. As they attract the public’s attention and amusement they also equally face criticisms from various sections of people as they see this fun as a waste of money and things.
Even the critics never spare the Superstar himself for not advising or guiding his fans to stop such acts. Neither the star nor the fans cared about it because they actually possessed a totally different face to show up. The Thalaivar, fondly called by not only his fans worldwide but also by the world celebrities, made a historic announcement about his political entry at the end of 2017 among his fans during a fans meet. The first and foremost step taken by the actor is to cluster all the existing fan clubs under a single umbrella called Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM). Soon an app was developed to coordinate things and communicate with the public.
Way before the creation of RMM, fans of Rajinikanth were indulging in social activities like arranging blood donation camps, feeding orphanages & old-age homes, planting tree samplings, etc. Since these were carried out in different localities under different clubs these works were shaded from the knowledge of the public. But now the clubs are united under one institution and the announcements of District heads and secretaries following it have brought a central leadership to guide all. As per the guidance from the Thalaivar, various social activities are carried out under the banner of RMM like helping the Gaja storm victims, providing water during the time of scarcity, spraying pesticides to control mosquito, renovating the old public schools and arranging other amenities to the children, etc.
Every year the most celebrated day for the fans of Thalaivar is his birthday which falls on the 12th of December. This year his fans have decided for a noble cause with a tagline “Feed five on Thalaivar birthday”. Every who can afford should offer food for five needy people on his birthday. The idea behind is if the same activity is done under a club only a few can be benefitted comparing to when every fan feeding for five which may include more beneficiaries. To make this task easier a family restaurant named Aruvi near Erode has announced a scheme to share the task. Under this, it is enough to pay for four while the charges for the fifth meal will be bored by the restaurant. Fans who can only afford four can make use of this scheme to fulfill the goal.
One die-hard fan of Thalaivar has taken this idea beyond a matter of single-day celebration to a noble scheme of feeding poor people all the 365 days at a very minimal rate. A plate of limited meals is charged only at 10/- rupees and unlimited meals at 30/- rupees. The ribbon-cutting ceremony held on the eve of Thalaivar’s birthday by a woman staff. The restaurant is named as ‘Uzhaippali’ named after the yesteryear blockbuster of Superstar and is located at Manapakkam area of Chennai. Amma Unavagam of the Tamilnadu government is famous for providing meals to the poor at a very low cost. This restaurant is all set to do the same service no lesser than the government scheme. Thalaivar fans are not only the trendsetters in celebrating their star’s events but also has set an example of how useful their celebration can be to society.
